 Scabies (Sarcoptes scabiei): causes, symptoms and treatment

Overview:
Scabies is a dermic infection disease that caused by a species of mite that is very small, making a contagious skin disease.
Causes:
- The main cause of Scabies is the mite insect that causes scabies to burrow into skin, depositing their eggs which mature in 21 days   .
- Scabies spread also by direct contact with infected people, sharing clothing or bedding, and in this case whole families may be affected    .
- The rash and the itching are due to an allergic response to the mite.
Symptoms:
The symptoms include:
- Pimples over the trunk, or small blisters over the palms and sole in young baby   .
- The head, neck, shoulders, palms, and soles are involved in young children. 
- The hands, wrists, genitals, and abdomen are involved in older children and adults   .
The main symptoms involve:
1-Itching, especially at night.
2- Rashes    .
3-Sores (abrasions) on the skin from scratching and digging.
4-Thin, pencil-mark lines on the skin.
Exams and Tests:
Involve :
1- Examination of skin scrapings under microscope
2-By naked eye doctor can see signs of scabies.
Treatment:
 Involves :
1-Prescription medicated creams as  permethrin 5%.This Creams include benzyl benzoate and sulfur in petrolatum and applied all over the body . whole family that contact with infected people need to be treated even if they have no symptoms .
2- Medication taken by mouth can be prescribed for difficult cases to kill the scabies mites as Ivermectin pills   .
 3- The healthy care should be involved to reduce itching and you can also use calamine lotion for this purpose     .
4- Antihistamine oral drugs are recommended also to reduce the Itching     .
Prevention:
Avoid direct contact with infected persons.
